A.B. Combs Leadership Magnet School Muriel Summers, Principal Juley Sexton, Assistant Principal
I had the honor to present a breakout session on equity at the Leader in Me Symposium at Hilton Head Island on February 7, 2020. My presentation highlighted the inherent links between equity and the Leader In Me tenets as well as establishing the need for all educators to live equitable practices for the benefit of all students. The session ended with several suggestions for next steps and a 4DX framework to ensure thorough implementation of these new practices.
I thoroughly enjoyed crafting authentic relationships at A.B. Combs with students, staff, and community members. Learning the motivations and struggles of students allowed me to better serve them with adapted strategies that fostered maximum academic growth. I embraced and learned from the wonderful Combs traditions such as annual school themes, Walk to School Day, reading nights at the Method Road Community Center, Silver Tray Luncheons, the Spelling Bee, attending professional development outside of school with interested staff, and even appearing on one kindergartener's cape for the 100th Day of School. The relationships formed while serving A.B. Combs have been so filled with joy, and I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to serve it through my Principal Residency. Learning leadership from Ms. Summers and Mrs. Sexton has truly provided me a solid foundation to be an impactful and compassionate leader in WCPSS.
